The ozone is a layer of gas in the Earth's stratosphere that plays a crucial role in protecting life on our planet. It acts as a shield, absorbing the majority of the Sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can cause skin cancer, cataracts, and other health issues in humans, as well as harm ecosystems and damage crops. The ozone layer is composed of ozone molecules (O3) that are formed when oxygen molecules (O2) are broken apart by UV radiation and recombine with other oxygen molecules. However, human activities, such as the release of certain chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), have led to the depletion of the ozone layer, resulting in the formation of the ozone hole.
