The Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA) is a computer bus standard that was developed in the late 1980s as an enhancement to the original ISA bus architecture. EISA was designed to overcome the limitations of the ISA bus, such as its 16-bit data path and limited expansion capabilities. The EISA bus featured a 32-bit data path, support for higher clock speeds, and improved compatibility with newer hardware. EISA was primarily used in high-end server and workstation systems, as well as some desktop PCs, during the early 1990s. However, it was eventually superseded by other bus standards such as PCI and ISA, leading to its decline in popularity. Despite its relatively short lifespan, EISA played a significant role in the evolution of computer architecture and paved the way for future bus standards.
