The Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that oversees the auditors of Canadian public companies to ensure they meet the highest standards of professional practice and conduct. CPAB was established in 2003 in response to corporate accounting scandals and the collapse of Enron and WorldCom in the United States. Its primary role is to conduct inspections of audit firms and review their adherence to professional standards in order to promote confidence in the integrity of financial reporting. The CPAB works in collaboration with the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) and other regulatory bodies to protect the interests of investors and promote transparency and accountability in the Canadian capital markets.
